Britney Spears Out and About

With all eyes on Paris Hilton being released from jail, it would seem that Monday was the perfect opportunity for Brit and her pals (cousin Alli included, of course) to hit the town. But when she arrived at Joseph’s Club at around midnight, she was barely recognizable. Dressed in all black and wearing a dark wig under a newsboy hat, Britney looked more high school goth than international popstar.

Sitting at a corner table near the dance floor, Brit talked to her friends, but didn’t appear to be moved by the music…perhaps she was waiting for a Morrissey track? She later got up and browsed through the DJ’s selections, requested a few songs, and dance-walked her way back to her seat. Though she cracked a few smiles, Brit was definitely her party’s pooper, finding her coke drink more entertaining than anything around her.

After leaving Joseph’s at 1:28 a.m., the gang went to a Carl’s Jr. drive-through for some late night snacks. There, the paparazzi who followed were treated to Brit’s version of ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake’s recent table-turning photography, though this time, no one was called an a-hole. We guess there was something cheery about Britney’s night after all!

Paris Hilton "Sick" of Prison Orange

Paris Hilton can't wait to be released from jail, so she can ditch her orange prison jumpsuit, her mother has revealed. Kathy Hilton visited the socialite at Lynwood California's Century Regional Detention Center on Saturday and claimed the 25-year-old is "very, very excited to see the family."

She added, "Paris is doing really well, she is really looking forward to going home, and she thanks you in the press who supported her. She wants to be with the family and she can't wait to take that orange suit off. She's sick of orange, but her health is good. She looks like Paris." Hilton will be released from the prison on Tuesday after serving 23 days of a 45-day sentence for violating probation by driving with a suspended license.

Hilton Feeling "Grateful" Behind Bars

Jailed socialite Paris Hilton insists she feels "more grateful" for her wealth and fame since she was placed behind bars earlier this month. The hotel heiress entered the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, California on June 3 after she found guilty of violating her probation from a drink driving arrest last year. Hilton called American Idol host Ryan Seacrest on Thursday to give him a status on her struggles in prison.

In a 10 minute phone call to be broadcast on E!, Hilton says, "I'm much more grateful for everything that I have, even just to have a pillow at night or food. In a way, I'm really glad this happened, because it changed my life forever. I just realize that the media used me to make fun of and be mean about it. Frankly, I'm sick of it. I want to use my fame in a good way. I feel like I can't wait to start a new chapter of my life. It feels really great even though I really don't like it here."

Hilton Writes to Fans From Jail

Paris Hilton is filling her time in jail by responding to fans' letters. The socialite, who is serving time for violating probation on a 2006 drunk driving charge, spends 23 hours a day locked in a cell at the Century Regional Detention Center in Lynwood, California. And she isn't sitting idle - she's putting pen to paper.

E! Online obtained one of the letters Hilton has sent back to a well-wisher, in which she writes, "I read your letter and just wanted to thank you for your kind words of love and support. The fact that you took time out of your day to write me truly means the world. Especially at such a difficult and scary time in my life. But I am being strong and trying to make the best out of the situation. And the letters I'm receiving really do put a smile on my face as I sit here in my cell, sad and alone." A representative for Hilton confirms the letter was written by the hotel heiress, adding, "She has been trying to respond to her fans as they write, personally." Hilton began her sentence on June 4; she is expected to walk free on Monday.

Hilton's Jail Cell Decorating Plans Ripped Down

Paris Hilton's plans to give her bare-walled prison cell a little flair fell flat when wardens at the Century Regional Detention Center in California ripped down her family photos. The socialite was unaware of jailhouse rules that forbid inmates from decorating their cells when she attempted to stick photos on the wall.

Hilton's mother Kathy, who last visited Paris on Sunday, tells Fox News, "Somebody sent her some family photos and she tried to put some... on the wall and the guard came in and ripped them off." Kathy Hilton admits her daughter continues to struggle behind bars, where she's serving time for a parole violation. She adds, "She's never been alone... This is, as she calls it, a real time out." Paris is expected to be released for good behavior on June 25.

Winfrey Voted Most Powerful Celebrity

TV host Oprah Winfrey has been voted the world's most powerful celebrity. The talk show queen beat fellow celebrities Sir Elton John, The Rolling Stones and Tom Cruise to top the poll by business magazine Forbes. Golfer Tiger Woods took second spot and singer Madonna was in third place. The annual list takes into account celebrities' earnings, internet presence and press, TV and radio coverage.

Winfrey, whose chat show is watched by 30 million viewers each week, regained her top spot - which she lost last year to Tom Cruise - with estimated earnings of $260 million. A Forbes spokeswoman says, "A combination of strong financials and her enduring influence on the U.S. public, which could see her affecting the outcome of next year's U.S. elections, is enough to propel her back into the top spot." Jailed heiress Paris Hilton, who was number 56 on last year's list, failed to make the top 100 for 2007.

Survey: "Hilton Serving More Time Than Average"

Socialite Paris Hilton will end up spending longer in jail than most inmates locked up for similar offences, according to a survey carried out by the Los Angeles Times. Critics have claimed the 26-year-old is receiving preferential treatment inside - but the results of the survey reveal Hilton will serve more time than 80 percent of people jailed for similar drink-driving crimes.

When the hotel heiress was sent back to jail last Friday, after a judge reversed a decision allowing her to complete her sentence under house arrest, Hilton's lawyer confirmed she would serve the full 23 days behind bars. The Los Angeles Times analyzed two million jail releases and found 1,500 cases since July 2002 that involved circumstances similar to Hilton violating her probation on a drink-driving conviction. Of these, researchers found the average sentence was 14 days - nine less than Hilton's - and inmates were released after serving an average four days in jail.

Hiltons Turn Out To Honor Walters

Beloved broadcaster Barbara Walters had another Paris Hilton treat in store for her when she unveiled her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame yesterday - imprisoned Paris' mother Kathy and sister Nicky were among those paying tribute to the interviewer. Walters kicked off the week by chatting to Paris after the troubled heiress called her from the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles.

Hilton told Walters, a long-time pal of Kathy Hilton's, "I used to act dumb. That act is no longer cute. Now, I would like to make a difference. God has given me this new chance." Walters is expected to land the first primetime TV interview with Hilton when she's released from prison on June 25.

Clooney Demands Apology for Hilton "Misquote"

George Clooney has demanded an apology from a media outlet after he was misquoted bad-mouthing jailed socialite Paris Hilton. The Syriana star was quoted as saying, "You can only get so far without discernable talent - then you either work, or use cheap publicity tricks to keep the public's attention. Paris has no reason to complain if she is on the end of bad publicity."

According to Tmz.com, a representative for Clooney has demanded a retraction and an apology from KP International, who are reported to have distributed the actor's alleged words. Hotel heiress Hilton is serving time for violating her probation on a 2006 drink driving arrest, and is expected to be released for good behavior on June 25.

Hilton's Parents Visit Her in Jail

Paris Hilton's parents visited the socialite in prison yesterday and were told she's cold and sleep deprived in jail. Rick and Kathy Hilton paid their first visit to Hilton's Twin Towers Correctional Facility home in Downtown Los Angeles and spent 30 minutes chatting to Paris through visiting-room glass. Her worried mum told reporters outside the prison, "It's tough in there. It's cold... She really hasn't had much sleep."

But Kathy admits she's happy that her daughter is roughing it out: "She was very happy. She wants to just do her time and get on with it." Rick and Kathy Hilton are scheduled to visit their daughter again on Sunday. The hotel heiress, who is serving time for violating her probation on a 2006 drunk driving arrest, is expected to be released for good behavior on June 25.

Hilton Learns "Bitter" Lesson, Withdraws Appeal

Paris Hilton has acknowledged the "bitter, but important lesson" her recent legal troubles have taught her - and has decided not to appeal the decision to put her back behind bars. The hotel heiress was sent back to Los Angeles' Century Regional Detention Center in Lynwood, California on Friday to finish the 45-day sentence she began last Sunday night - after a judge reversed the decision to allow her to complete the sentence under house arrest. Hilton's legal team were reportedly preparing to challenge Los Angeles judge Michael T. Sauer's ruling, but have dropped the case at The Simple Life star's request. She was jailed for violating her parole following a 2006 drink driving arrest.

In a statement issued Saturday night, Hilton says, "Today I told my attorneys not to appeal the judge's decision. While I greatly appreciate the Sheriff's concern for my health and welfare, after meeting with doctors I intend to serve my time as ordered by the judge. This is by far the hardest thing I have ever done. During the past several days, I have had a lot of time to reflect and have already learned a bitter, but important lesson from this experience. As I have said before, I hope others will learn from my mistakes. I have also had time to read the mail from my fans. I very much appreciate all of their good wishes and hope they will keep their letters coming." And Tmz.com alleges the 26-year-old is on the verge of a nervous breakdown - she is reportedly on suicide watch in the medical ward of the L.A. jail.

Hilton Ordered Back to Prison

A judge has ordered Paris Hilton back to jail to serve out her entire 45-day sentence for a parole violation, after a frenzied roundelay of events that saw the socialite released from prison to house custody, only to be ordered back to court the next day. According to witnesses, she was taken from the courtroom while crying and screaming for her mother. A Los Angeles judge had earlier stepped in and ordered her to appear at a court hearing Friday - after she was reportedly given permission to sit in on the hearing via the phone. Lawyers representing the socialite have been locked in a battle with the Los Angeles City Attorney and the Sheriff's Department over whether she could be allowed to stay at home for the hearing following her release from jail yesterday.

After initially reporting that she had been granted permission to phone in her appearance, TMZ.com reported that Judge Michael T. Sauer has ordered Hilton to appear in court Friday afternoon and dispatched a car to pick her up from her Hollywood home. Hilton was in floods of tears when she left her home, handcuffed, to attend the court hearing in the back of a police car. Prosecutors appealed the decision to release Hilton on house arrest yesterday, which would have allowed her to finish her sentence for violating probation at home. Los Angeles Sheriff Lee Baca insists the decision was made on medical grounds, but critics believe she was granted preferential treatment. The 26-year-old was serving a 23-day sentence in Los Angeles' Century Regional Detention Center for violating her parole following a 2006 drunk-driving arrest.

Hilton's Early Release Slammed by L.A. City Attorney

The decision to release Paris Hilton from jail yesterday after just three days inside has been slammed by Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo. Delgadillo is furious the Sheriff's Department didn't consult him before permitting Hilton's release on medical grounds. The socialite was serving a 23 day sentence in the Century Regional Detention Center for violating her parole following a 2006 drunk-driving arrest. Hilton has been fitted with an ankle bracelet and will now serve 40 days under house arrest.

Delgadillo says in a statement: "Today I was extremely troubled to learn that the Sheriff's Department has decided to release Ms. Hilton from custody just three days after she was admitted to county jail. Had we been provided with the proper notification, we would have opposed the decision on legal grounds. I am also concerned that the judicial process may have been improperly circumvented in this case. I have directed my criminal branch to immediately explore all possible legal options to ensure that the law is being applied equally and justly in this case. If law enforcement officials are to enjoy the respect of those we are charged with protecting, we cannot tolerate a two-tiered jail system where the rich and powerful receive special treatment." Civil rights leader Reverend Al Sharpton is also highly critical of Hilton's early release. He says, "This early release gives all the appearances of economic and racial favoritism that is constantly cited by poor people and people of color. There are any number of cases of people who handle being incarcerated badly and even have health conditions that are not released."

Paris Tagged and "Reassigned"

Paris Hilton has been fitted with an ankle bracelet and put on house arrest over fears for her health in jail. The socialite, who was serving a 23 day sentence in Los Angeles' Century Regional Detention Center for violating her parole following a 2006 drunk-driving arrest, was sent home earlier today, Steve Whitmore, a spokesperson for the County Sheriff's Department, said at a press conference. He revealed Hilton was issued with an ankle bracelet and released from prison at 2:09 am local time. As a result of her early release, the hotel heiress' sentence has been returned to the 45 days initially agreed in court. This will be served at her home and under the supervision of the Los Angeles Probation Office. She has already served five days.

Whitmore said, "Paris Hilton will be reassigned to a community-based, alternative to custody electronic monitoring program. This means that she has been fitted with an ankle bracelet and sent home and will be confined to her home for the next 40 days." Details of the medical issue which forced Hilton's dramatic release are confidential, Whitmore added, but the decision was reportedly approved by doctors who examined the celebrity inmate yesterday. Although Hilton is officially confined to her home under the tagging system, her electronic ankle bracelet allows movement to a range of 3,000 to 4,000 square feet.

Paris Not Eating or Sleeping in Jail

Paris Hilton is struggling after a little over two days in jail, sobbing to family members over the phone and complaining she isn't sleeping or eating. The heiress has served just over 48 hours of her 23 day sentence for violating her parole following a 2006 drink-driving arrest.

But, according to Tmz.com, the 26-year-old is close to crumbling. Sources tell the site she has no appetite and is struggling to sleep in her noisy and "freezing cell" with just three small blankets and no pillow. Hilton's fellow inmates have extended her a warm welcome according to the sources, who claim other prisoners chanted "Paris! Paris! Paris!" as she passed them - as well as offering her gifts and words of support.

Kathy Hilton: "Jail Will Make Paris a Better Person"

Paris Hilton's mother Kathy is adamant her daughter will emerge from her 23-day prison term "a better person" and is doing everything she can to support the jailed heiress. The Simple Life star began her jail term at the Century Regional Detention Center on Sunday night, after violating her probation following a 2006 drunk-driving arrest.

And while Kathy Hilton was fighting back the tears as she accompanied the 26-year-old to jail at the weekend, she is confident Paris will learn from her mistakes. Hilton's publicist Elliot Mintz tells the New York Post, "Kathy is very emotional. She wanted to exhibit strength for her daughter. She thought it was the most important thing to do. She thinks Paris will emerge from this a better person."

Hilton Doing "Very Well" in Jail

Socialite Paris Hilton is coping "very well under the circumstances" after spending her first day in jail for violating her probation following a 2006 drunk-driving arrest.

The 26-year-old began her 23-day jail term on Sunday night at 10:30pm. Her lawyer Richard Hutton yesterday told reporters gathered outside the Los Angeles jail where Hilton is incarcerated that his client is being held in a 100 square foot "administrative segregation" cell because she is a celebrity. Hilton is allowed outside of her cell for one hour each day "to be in the module, take a shower and talk on the phone." Hutton also confirmed it was Hilton's decision to enter jail under cover of darkness, in an attempt to avoid a "media circus."

Hilton To Share Cell With Reckless Driver

Troubled socialite Paris Hilton will share her prison cell with a reckless driver during her 23-day jail sentence. The hotel heiress has to report to Los Angeles' Century Regional Detention Center by June 5 to start serving her sentence for violating her probation following her 2006 drunk-driving arrest.

According to Tmz.com, the prison has chosen a female cellmate whom they believe will not want to "cash in" on Hilton's stay. Sources claim prison chiefs have already started searches of anything electronic and have sent a memo to staff warning them they face being fired if pictures of Hilton appear in the press.
